Essye Wyman (1928-2011)

Essye Wyman (1928 - 2011) Our much loved Mom, Essye Wyman, 83, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 5, 2011, after suffering a stroke. Essye was born in Esto, Fla., on Aug. 15, 1928, to Shelby and Mary Davis. After high school she went to Business College in Jacksonville, Fla., where she met her future husband, David Wyman. They married in 1948 and eventually settled in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., where they raised six children. Essye worked at the Fort Walton Beach High School library, retiring in 1991 after 20 years of service. In addition to working for the school system, she loved her second career as a waitress. For 47 years she worked at various area restaurants, including The Blue Room, Marina Bay, and most recently Brooks Bridge Barbecue. Essye was active with First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach. She and her husband were also avid boosters for the NWFSC Raiders. Essye's most loved activities were spending time with her family and friends, and taking daily walks. Essye was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, David Wilbur Wyman; as well as two sons, David Jr. and Gregory Lee; and both of her parents. She is survived by four children, Glenda (Lindsey) Harp, Bruce (Debbie) Wyman, Gail (Roger) Renfroe, and Diane (James) Baughman; her brother, Willard (Miriam) Davis; two nieces; one nephew; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 9, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. officiated by Dr. Howard Gates of First Baptist Church, in the chapel of Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E., Fort Walton Beach. Burial will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
