James Edward (J.E.) Simmons, age 80 of Jay died on Thursday, August 27, 2009 in Pensacola, Florida.
He was a lifelong resident of Santa Rosa County, Florida and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ruby Simmons; sons, John (Carol) Daughtery, Ed (Irene) Daughtery, and Joe Fuller; one sister, Nell (Rufus); three grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at Jay Funeral Home with Rev. Matthew Dobson officiating services. Burial will follow at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2009 from 5- 8 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Jim Preddy, Mike Fritz, Phil Johnson, Stanley Whitfield, Andrew Layton and Allen Edwards.
Jay Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Vesta Diamond, 91, of Chumuckla passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2009.
Mrs. Diamond was born on September 18, 1917 in Montgomery, Al. but lived most of her life in northwest Florida. She attended Florida State College for Women and taught school in Santa Rosa County. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed cooking, working in her yard and vegetable garden. Mrs. Diamond was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and a present member of First United Methodist Church of Pace.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lovick & Tommie Kimbrough; and four brothers, Rev. Lloyd Kimbrough, Fred Kimbrough, Pete Kimbrough and John Kimbrough.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 73 years, T.L. Diamond; a son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Carolyn Diamond of Pensacola; four grandchildren Jodi and Mike Suchan of Jacksonville, Fl; Cheryl and Tommy Raines of Pensacola; David and Helen Diamond of Atlanta, Ga; Kevin and Mandy Diamond of Pensacola and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters and one brother; Katherine James of Chumuckla; Betty and Ralph Hendricks of Pensacola and one brother Jack and Betty Kimbrough.
The service will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Lewis Funeral Home of Pace with Rev. John Webb officiating. Interment will be at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Kimbrough, Billy Kimbrough, Danny Holt, Ronnie Diamond, Kevin Diamond and Tommy Raines.
A special thanks to Jim Kimbrough, Billy Kimbrough, Bonnie Holt and their families for all their love and help, and to the nursing staff of Bayside Manor for their care and compassion.
