JASON GRANT KIRKLAND
On November 19, 2008, Jason Grant Kirkland, 24 years old, departed this life to go play his guitar for the herald of angels. Everyone who knew Jason knew he had a heart of gold. He loved everyone!!!! He was the Best Son, Brother, Grandson and friend that anyone could ever ask for. And more than anything the best Uncle in the Whole World to Peyton and Mason Cody. We love you Jase and you will truly be missed!!!!! He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Edgar Paul and Evert Smith, Uncle Mike and cousin Mark Edwards.
He is survived by his mother, Renee Etters; stepfather, Ray Etters; his father, Teddy Kirkland (Rebecca Meador); his brother, Matthew Kirkland and sister, Kelley Kirkland (Cody); two nephews, Peyton Cody and Mason Cody; his grandmothers, Helen Paul and JoAnn Smith; many aunts, uncles cousins and friends.
Pallbearers are Josh Davies, Brandon Allday, Barry Bailey, Josh Kirkland, Brandon Morris, and Larry Meador. Honorary Pallbearers are Jeremy Etters, Shane Cody and Travis Meador.
Funeral services will be held 2PM Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Jay Funeral Home with Rev. Digmon officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Level Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 12 noon -2PM.

Fire takes the Ward's Lives and Home
Lamar and Dottie Ward just off Penton Road, lost their lives to fire on Nov. 23. This is a sad event. Fires have been very destructive in our community the last year. The Wards are wonderful people. Lamar used to help Mr. Walther out at the nursery in Chumuckla. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Ward family on their loss.

Mollie Jane, daughter of Gasque and Virginia, went Home Sunday, September 28, 2008. Mollie Jane was a proud Santa Rosa County resident and a member of one of the pioneer families of North West Florida. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as the Daughters of the Confederacy. She was also a member of the Floridatown Historical Society.
Except for the past few years, she was involved in many civic activities, a lot of them being the restoration and preservation of many of the old Santa Rosa Cemeteries. Mollie Jane was a member of Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church, of which was named for her great-grandmother.
Mollie Jane was preceded in death by her husband and soul mate, Jim Ward, in 1983; and her sister, Julie Booher, who went Home in January 2004.
She leaves behind three sisters, Pat Price, of DeFuniak Springs, Hester (Wilbert) Courtney, of Milton, and Myra Hughes, of Pace; sister-in-law, Pat (Leon) Livingston; much loved nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends; four adoring children, who will miss her most of all, David (Joyce) Mitchell, of Pace, Ginny (Richard) Garrett, of Pace, Crystal Ward (Jim Lane), of Pace, Jayme (Robin) Ward, of Milton; also, ten grandchildren, Jesse Mitchell, Heather Baesman, Bonnie and Hollie Livingston, Laura and Matt Melton, Tiffany, Charlsey and Cody Martin, and James Ward.
"We love you, Grandmother. We won't forget the things you taught us."
Funeral services for Mrs. Ward will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Elizabeth Chapel with Rev. Byrd Mapoles officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel, 4777 W. Spencerfield Road in Pace.

BRANDON GRIFFIN 1980 - 2008
Brandon Griffin, age 28 of Chumuckla, Florida, left this life for his Home in Heaven on Monday, September 29, 2008.
Brandon was born in Pensacola, Florida, on June 24, 1980. He lived in Chumuckla most of his life and was employed as an Apprentice at Southeast Building System, Inc.
Brandon was a special young man and loved spending time with his children and family. He loved the outdoors, bow hunting and fishing. He loved the Lord in a very special way. Brandon was loved dearly by all who knew him and will be forever missed and will always have a place in our hearts and lives.
Brandon is survived by his son, Dakota Griffin, whose mother is Brandy Dunn of Dadeville, AL; and his daughter, Dorianne Griffin, whose mother is Jessica Peaden of Pace, FL. He is also survived by his father and mother, Scott and Connie Griffin, Chumuckla, FL; sister, Aimee Griffin and her fiance`, Beau White of Pace, FL; nieces, Penelope Griffin and Kylie Ann White of Pace, FL; fraternal grandparents, Bo and Janice Griffin of TN; maternal grandparents, Chris Fraley of Pace, FL; Carl Carter of Pensacola, FL; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends;

C G "CHIEF" LAWLER 1920-2008
C G "Chief" Lawler, age 88, passed away on September 23, 2008. He was born in Hodges, AL and has resided in Santa Rosa since 1957. He was a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer with over 21 years of service. He served in WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He was awarded the Commendation Ribbon, Aircrew Insignia, Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He also served during the Korean conflict. He also retired from the City of Milton.
Mr. Lawler is preceded in death by his wife, Mary C. Lawler. He is survived by two sons, Bob Lawler of Milton and Greg Lawler of Milton; two daughters, Carolyn (Chubby) Locklin of McLellan and Diane (Dale) Simmons of Milton; four grandchildren, Jeff (Carla) Locklin, Katie (Michael) Brandon,Steve (Carey) Locklin, Justin Simmons; nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, September 26, 2008 at McLellan Church of Christ with full military honors. Visitation will be from 1:00pm to 2:00pm prior to service. Cynthia Campbell Mitchell fights Cancer
Cynthia had gall bladder surgery because she thought that was what was making her feel so sick and tired. Since then she had 3 spells. She will be feeling fine one minute and the next minute she will be sick to her stomach. High temperatures and blood work and CT scans led to a tumor (big as a softball) diagnosis. An operation is imminent. Likely a Monday surgery. Your prayers are requested and appreciated. The hospital for contact will be Sacred Heart.
In other developments: Diane Hatfield has completed chemo therapy and is at home. Tom Reynolds is undergoing stent surgery for his arteries this week. Curtis and Benny appear to be recovered from their bouts with cancer. Norman Walther is well from his heart surgery but his wife is in treatment for lung cancer and making progress. There are several more cancer cases in our Chumuckla family and they all are in our prayers.

Cynthia Campbell Mitchell fights Cancer
June 10, I had gall bladder surgery because we thought that was what was making me feel so sick and tired. Since then I have had 3 spells. July 5, the end of July and August 17. I will be feeling fine one minute and the next minute I will be so sick to my stomach. Sometimes I can throw up but most of the time I don't I feel like I am going to have diarrhea but usually I am constipated. The first night I run almost 102 temp. The second night almost 101. The third night almost 100. My stomach is so sore afterwards for 3 or 4 days. I went to my primary doctor on Friday, August 22. He gave me antibiotics to take for 10 days. The next Wednesday night I was running 100.8. Last Tuesday I had blood work. Wednesday morning I had an ultrasound and the nurse called me and said I had a large mass. Thursday, I had a CT scan and more blood work. Today I had more blood work.
I got a call this morning to be at Dr. Stalnaker ASAP.
I am waiting for Dr. Stalnaker to call me and let me know when I will have the surgery. The tumor is probably a little bigger than a softball from the way he held his hands. He says it shows signs of being cancer so he wants a cancer doctor there when I have surgery. He is trying to get up with a cancer doctor, my heart doctor and GP before he gets back to me.
He will do a complete hysterectomy and lymph nodes. He told me it is possible that they might have to remove part of my colon and wear a bag for awhile. He is surprised that Dr. Tugwell didn't find it when he took out my gall bladder.
At least now I know why I am feeling so tired. I thought it was just taking care of my 3 kids (Jackson, Julia and Tommy).
