Rufus Jackson "Jack" Caraway March 25, 1939 - August 15, 2014
Rufus Jackson “Jack” Caraway, 75, of the Wallace Community in Santa Rosa County, Florida, entered the gates of Heaven on Friday, August 15, 2014. He was born on March 25, 1939, in Santa Rosa County. Jack graduated from Chumuckla High School in 1958. He grew up farming and continued to farm while also working at American Cyanamid. He retired from Cyanamid in 1994. Jack was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, and work in his garden. He loved International Farmall tractors, vacationing in the mountains, and nothing was more precious to him than his wife and family. He was a member of the Chumuckla Community Church, and enjoyed participating on two mission trips to Peru and Costa Rica with the church’s dental team.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Velma Caraway, and sister, Janice Herndon.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 57 years, Anita Caraway; three sons, Dale (Barbara) Caraway, Keith (Rosemary) Caraway, and Bruce (Rene’) Caraway; a daughter, Susan (Greg) Cotton; six grandsons, Joey Caraway, Brandon Caraway, Chad Caraway, Scott Caraway, Jeremy Cotton and Mark Leflore; two granddaughters, Alisha Caraway and Gretchen Wiggins; thirteen great grandchildren, Tyler, Matthew, Hannah, Luke Brooklynne, Kendall, Sawyer, Kennley, Levi, Wyatt, Emery, Morgann and Jase; and a special friend Vickie Shiver.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at the Chumuckla Community Church with Pastor Tom Sharron and Rev. LaDon Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Elizabeth Chapel Community Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, August 18, 2014 at Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel.
Active Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers will be M. J. Arnold, Ted House, George Garrett, Oscar Pittman, Leon Weeks, Butch Wells, Earl Wendt and William Bond.
Jack was a loving and caring Husband, Daddy, Papa, and Friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
