Velvie Hatfield's House Burns
Velvie Hatfield 85 was cooking in her kitchen when some grease exploded and caught her clothing on fire.... the home she's lived in for over 40 years also quickly caught fire.
She tried to put the fire out and fell out the back door and could not get up.
Frank Moore, passing by, saw the fire and called 911 and he saw Mrs. Hatfield was on fire and ran over and pulled her from the fire and put out the fire on her. She was life flighted to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola with 2nd degree burns on 50 percent of her body. Thats all I know right now. Doug. MORE HERE. Please feel free to add comments below.

Thanks, Doug. More from her family. She has been transferred to Birmingham burn unit. Christine and Carlos are there now. Much local help is underway with her church - Chumuckla UMC. Burns are 2nd degree.

I am sure that by now all of you - or at least most of you - will have heard about Velvie's fire or seen it on T.V. Velvie was transferred by plane to a burn center in Birmingham, Alabama on Tuesday evening. As of this morning she was holding her own. She is still on a respirator, but I am told that the oxygen level was able to be turned down a tad. Velvie suffered extensive burns over most of her body. However, her back and feet are considered to be third degree burns and will require scin grafting as soon as possible (possibly within the next 2-3 weeks). We can only think that that might be due to her diabetes which does not aid healing!
She is still in grave danger but seems to know when folks are in her room.
I went by her house today and saw the devastation to her home and car!!! My home burned a number of years ago, but the fire was able to go out thru the roof, therefore, only a few rooms were devastated by the fire. All of Velvie's rooms are/were charred! Very sad to see. The front of her car is totally burned out and the bumper on the rear - closest to the house - was totally melted!!
A fund is being set up for Velvie and her family. Anyone wishing to donate to it can do so by sending a check payable to The Velvie Fund. Randy will be opening an account to deposit all proceeds into. Soooooo, if you wish to donate, send the check (or bring it) to the Church.
As we hear more information and/or updates, we will be forwarding the information on. Keep her in all our prayers!

This is copy of email I received from Bro Patrick, Robert Hat fields Pastor[>>>>>] : THANKS FOR THE EMAIL, I WENT TO B-HAM YESTERDAY FOR THE SHOULDER SURGERY, THEY STARTED AT 12:15 AND FINISHED ABOUT 3, THEY HAD TO DO A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE IT WAS BROKE IN SO MANY PIECES, BUT SHE DID GREAT, AND THE FAMILY WAS ABLE TO SEE HER ON THE 5:30 VISIT. THE SKIN GRAFTS SHOULD BE A SIMPLER SURGERY, NOT AS MUCH ON HER AS THE SHOULDER. LETS REMEMBER TO PRAY THAT THERE ARE NO INFECTIONS COMING FROM THESE SURGERYS. GOD BLESS YOU.
