Obituary:
Jackie was born January 2, 1951, in Century, Florida, to the late John "JD" and Ruth Wynell Hayes Salter.
He played basketball in school and graduated from Chumuckla High School in 1969. He graduated from Jeff Davis Community College in 1971 with an AA degree. He began working for the Florida Department of Transportation in 1972, and retired in 2005 after 33 years of service. Jackie and his family are devoted Auburn Tiger fans. He loved to fish and hunt with his children and brothers. Jackie enjoyed raising cows, hogs, and working on the family farm. Jackie was a loving and caring provider for his wife and children. His daughter and his grandchildren were his heart.
Jackie is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Martin Salter and Dan Salter; sister-in-law, Martha Salter; and a son-in-law, Terry "TJ" Gore Jr.
Jackie is survived by his loving and devoted wife , Mary Jane Salter; two children, Tabatha Salter Gore and Wesley Salter; daughter-in-law, Carlyn Salter and ex-son-in-law, Darin Dawson; all of Chumuckla. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jacklyn, Weston, and Brooklyn Salter, of Jay; and Brianna Stewart of Milton; his "claimed grandchildren," Alexis Adrienne, Arielle (Patrick) Patterson of Milton, and Ethan Harris and Kennedy Salter of Jay; niece, Angie (Mike) Pennell; two nephews, Jerod Salter and Joel (Stephanie) Salter; aunts, Grace (Charles) Carnley of Jay, Ollie Joe (Charles) Williams of Georgianna, Alabama, and Betty McMillan of Pace; a special cousin, Gail (Bill) Allred; and an extended list of family members.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 16, 2015, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Bro. Larry Pearson, Bobby Carnley, and Mark Stuart officiating. Lewis Funeral Home, Milton, has been entrusted with arrangements.

Thomas Roger Reynolds 1943-2015

Tom Reynolds of the Chumuckla community died Friday afternoon October 9, 2015 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Tom was born in Samson, Alabama. He moved to the Chumuckla community in 1956. Tom proudly served his country with the Air Force during the Vietnam war. Following his time in service, he lived in Colorado Springs and then returned to his beloved Chumuckla community where he worked off-shore before becoming an over-the-road truck driver. He also became the biggest fan of the sports programs in the area. He was proceeded in death by his father, Louie Reynolds. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jeanette Reynolds and his mother, Loveda Reynolds. Tom leaves behind 2 sons Jim Reynolds, Brian Reynolds (Michelle); 1 step-son Scott Holmes (Molly); and 7 grand-children Danielle, Lindsay,Timothy, Paul, Hannah, Alex and Brendan. Visitation for family and friends will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, Oct 13, 2015 at Chumuckla Community Church with a Celebration Service following at 11:00 am. “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation UNDER GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”

Mildred Golden Simmons Salter, 84, of Chumuckla, Florida, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015. Mildred was born in Jay, Florida. She graduated from Chumuckla High School and was a member of Chumuckla Community Church. Mildred was a native of Santa Rosa County her entire life. She was preceded in death by parents, Porter C. Simmons and Verla Maebelle D. Simmons; and spouse, Thomas D. Salter, Jr. She is survived by her five children; Thomas D. Salter, III, Pamela A. Salter, Judy Renee Salter, Lewis M. Salter (Lynda), Deborah S. Crews (Ricky), grandchildren; Stephen A. Diamond, Christina Y. Cross, Alyssa Ivey Crews, James Balk, Sylvia Balk, Shelby Balk, great-grandchildren; Robert Cross, Gavin Cross, Ethan Diamond, Owen Thomas Diamond, Noah Diamond, Colt Cross, sister; Lillian (Polly) Spears, and brother; Mason Simmons (Ruby), many sister and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel, with Pastor Tom Sharon officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will follow services at Elizabeth Chapel Community Cemetery, Chumuckla. Stephen A. Diamond, Marty Griswold, Alan Miller, Terry Spears, Bill Enfinger, and Rusty Enfinger will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to thank Dr. C. David Smith and his excellent staff for many years of extremely good care of our mother. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the Circle of Love group from the church for the many visits, prayers, and special gifts.

Senior Meals at Community Center

Every weekday aat 11am at the Community Center across from the school. There is a ONE DOLLAR fee. That is it.  Lots of local seniors show up there and enjoy a nice meal and some neighborly talk. Jim Bruce Grant, Jr, 59

Jim Bruce Grant, Jr. Jim Bruce Grant, Jr, 59, a native of Gulf Breeze, FL, and resident of Autaugaville, AL, died peacefully on May 20 surrounded by his family at home after a short illness. An Eagle Scout in his high school years, Jim went on to earn a BS and LL.M. from The University of Florida, as well as a Juris Doctor from The University of Alabama. Jim practiced law with Capell and Howard in Montgomery, AL, for many years. Jim served selflessly and heroically in the U.S. Army for over 16 years. He served the nation in both the Florida Army National Guard and the Alabama Army National Guard. In 2004, Jim began serving his country with his law degree as a Judge Advocate General with the 62nd Troop Command in Montgomery, AL. Jim served three tours of duty: 2 to Afghanistan as Military Intelligence Advisor, 1 to Iraq as Staff Judge Advocate with the 1st Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group. Jim earned numerous medals and awards for his service. Jim is survived by his wife Jennifer; his daughter Amanda Grant Brooks (Scott Brooks) of Andalusia, AL; his daughter Dr. Alicen Grant-Rubinstein (Paul Rubinstein) of Prattville, AL; his sister Janie Grant Gaylard (Melvin Gaylard) of Cantonment, FL; his sister Diane Grant Dodge (Joe Dodge) of Acworth, GA; his grandson George Corbitt Brooks of Andalusia, AL; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Bruce and Ruby Jane Grant. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, May 22, at 2 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in Montgomery, AL, by Rev. Robert Wisnewski. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A military graveside service will be held Monday, May 25, at 2 p.m. at Elizabeth Chapel Community Cemetery, 9475 Chumuckla Hwy, Jay, FL 32565. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials in Jim's name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758541, Topeka, KS 66675, or to Boy Scouts of America, 3067 Carter Hill Rd, Montgomery, AL 36111.
