1910-2007
Milton Candler Kimbrough Salter, age 96, of Chumuckla, slipped from this world into the arms of Jesus, October 19, 2007. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Duncan Salter Sr. She was born in Claud, Alabama, December 16, 1910. At the age of nine, her family moved to Florida and she resided in Chumuckla for the past 88 years. Milton was active in her church and community. Her love of God, first and foremost, and with family and friends right behind. Some of Mrs. Salter's accomplishments were, First Chumuckla PTA President, Founder of Camp Grace, serving in numerous offices with her church, Chumuckla United Methodist Church, and in 1991, Mr. and Mrs. Salter were voted "Santa Rosa County Farm Family of the Year". Mrs. Salter was instrumental in her church providing wisdom and leadership and was selected as "Chumuckla's Ministering Angel" in Northwest Florida's Good Neighbor Program.Mrs. Salter is survived by her six children, Thomas (Mildred) Salter Jr., Gwendolyn (Frank) Enfinger, Winona (Copeland) Griswold, Margaret (Leon) Miller, Dick (Glenda) Salter,and Mabel (Jeffrey) Cotton; she was blessed to have 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.Funeral services for Mrs. Salter will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2007, at Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel with Bro. Glen Lowery, assisted by the Rev. Clifford Abbott and the Rev. Clive Knight officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery with LEWIS FUNERAL HOME directing. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00PM, Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel.Pallbearers will be her 10 grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her 15 granddaughters.In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mrs. Salter's memory to Pace Assembly of God Church, 3948 Highway 90, Pace, FL 32571; Chumuckla Methodist Church, 9485 Hwy 197, Pace, 32571; Elizabeth Chapel Methodist Church, 8008 Chumuckla Hwy, Pace, FL 32571; or Wallace Baptist Church,6601 Chumuckla Hwy, Pace, FL 32571.Milton was surrounded by family, all of whom honored and loved her. Her enthusiasm and love of life was contagious to everyone. Milton was a woman of great faith and a role model to all, a friend to many and a joy to all who knew her.

Some of my strongest and most favorite memories were from the years growing up in Chumuckla - and visiting with the Salters at their old home in the family's truck farming era. That thrust of the family still thrives in the Thomas, Jr. branch. Milton was a hard worker and a strong woman who reared a family now large and widely dispersed over the country and even the world. It seems a lot of that strength must have come from her Mother, Mrs Lula Kimbrough who lived across the road from my Grandma - Dessie Campbell. As a kid , I would see Mrs. Kimbrough working the flower beds in her yard - well into her 80's. Milton was much the same in her approach to life - and - I think - her children carry the same ethic. It is an amazing family. Well done, Milton. Rest in Peace!
