Jack E. Kimbrough 1929-2013

Colonel (Retired) Jack E. Kimbrough, age 84, was called to heaven on March 26, 2013. Jack led a life full of love, hard work and great integrity. He grew up in Chumuckla, Florida as the 7th of 8 children. ONLINE OBITUARY -

His successes began at an early age as he graduated valedictorian, was voted most likely to succeed and led his high school basketball team to the Florida state championship. He went on to play basketball for the University of Florida. Go Gators! While at the University of Florida he was selected into the Florida Blue Key, a leadership organization, and was president of his fraternity, Chi Phi, but most importantly he met the love of his life, Betty Faulds. Betty was on the faculty while Jack was working on his Master’s degree. They were married in 1953 and Jack began his service in the US Air Force as a commissioned officer. They lived in numerous places while raising five children including Japan, Hawaii, as an exchange officer with the Royal Air Force in England, and three assignments to San Antonio. 

Jack retired and started his second career with USAA insurance company. He had many good friends and experiences there and retired as Vice President of Computer Systems. He then was called out of retirement to become president of GrammTech Company. In addition, he was a Master Mason in the Randolph chapter. 

Even though Jack was successful in many areas, there was nothing that brought him greater joy and pride than his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Kimbrough; his daughters: Laurie Miller, Sarie (David) Garrett, Janet (Dan) Slattery, Judy (Trent) Garmoe and son John (Kelly) Kimbrough. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jennifer (Scott) Bailey, Blake (Jenni) Miller, Rebecca (James) Burnside, Lauren Slattery, Doug Slattery, Ryan Kimbrough, Grant Kimbrough, Cameron Garmoe, Garrett Garmoe and great-grandchildren: Audrey Bailey and James Miller and numerous other family and friends. 

The legacy of Jack’s kind spirit, love of family, humor and zest for life will live on through them. His six grandsons will serve as pallbearers. 

The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M.-10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 1, 2013 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Graveside service with full military honors will take place at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery immediately following.
